Introduction to the collection
One Book Per Country
195 countries. One defining book each. A literary atlas of the world.
Last updated: 17 April 2026 -- 1 of 195 published
What is the one book that tells you most about a country -- not its history textbook, but the novel, the epic, the poem that makes you feel what it is like to live there?
This collection is a literary atlas. For every nation on earth, one book has been selected: the work that captures the texture of national experience -- voice, landscape, daily life, the argument a country has with itself. Some choices are obvious. Many are not. All are contested, and the debates are part of the point.
